Carlo F. Gamberoni, 92, of Jamesville, beloved husband, father, nonno and friend passed away peacefully on Monday at St. Joseph’s Hospital with his loving family by his side. Carlo was born in Comerio, Italy and moved to Washington, DC at the age of nine. In 1941, at age seventeen and after only three years of high school, Carlo volunteered to serve in the US Navy. He served for over four years during WWII aboard anti-submarine amphibian airplanes. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Carlo finished high school and continued his education at Georgetown University where he received his BS from the School of Foreign Service. Next he earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Columbia University. He then accepted a teaching position with the US Department of Defense Dependent Schools in Europe. His career began in France and continued in Italy where he met and married the love of his life, Alda Verdi. After several assignments in Belgium and Germany, he completed his 30 year career as an administrator in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Carlo and Alda retired in Washington, DC where Carlo volunteered at the White House and the Washington Opera. Carlo was also an active and respected member of the Glover Park community in the Georgetown section of Washington, DC. He had a zest for life, travel, and the arts, but mostly his devotion to family.
