Carlton Dillon Phelps' Obituary
Carlton Dillon Phelps, 83, of North Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Prior to retirement from Conrail in the 1980's as a conductor, Carl spent many years working for New York Central Railroad. His nickname on the railroad was "C.D. Phelps." He was known by all for his railroad stories which reinforced his love for his job as a brakeman and conductor. Carl was a self-educated man who always surprised everyone with his knowledge. "He will be fondly remembered every time we hear a whistle blow." He was predeceased by his five siblings, Murray, Hazel, Helen, Della and Betty. He leaves behind his beloved dog and best friend, "Roy." Carl is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Dominick) Lombardi of Liverpool and Audrey Denny of Syracuse; grandchildren, Rosina Lombardi of N. Syracuse, Dominick E. (Julie) Lombardi of Liverpool, Regina (Daniel) Trouesdale of N. Syracuse, Douglas Denny of Solvay and Donald (Aileen) Denny of Rochester; great-grandchildren, Dominick M. Lombardi, Daniel, Annina and Gisella Trouesdale; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 3:00 PM in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd., N. Syracuse, NY, Rev. John V. Ahern will be officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 to 3 PM.
