Carmella C. (DePaola) Almonte's Obituary
Carmella C. (DePaola) Almonte, 89, of East Syracuse, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital on Tuesday surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Rosario and Rosa (Messina) DePaola. Carmella was employed with Marine Midland Computer Center in North Syracuse for many years. She enjoyed playing scrabble, words with friends, crossword puzzles and knitting and crocheting for family and friends. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family and making meatballs that her grandchildren claim were the best ever. Carmella's family will always cherish the memory of Christmas Eve dinners and her Christmas cookies by the dozens.
She was predeceased by her husband, Fred F. Almonte; her brother, Nicholas DePaola and her sister, Josephine Russo. Carmella is survived by her four loving children, Fred J. (Lourdes) Almonte of Leesburg, FL., John P. (Brenda) Almonte of Minoa, Thomas M. (Michele) Almonte of Baldwinsville and Maria A. (Joseph) Monteleone of East Syracuse; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Fred, Brittany, Christina, Alex, Gina and Joseph; one great-grandson, Chance; a sister, Nena Dunn along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 8:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 9:00 am in St. Matthew's Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
