Carmella "Ruby" Messina's Obituary
Carmella “Ruby” Messina, 82, of Syracuse, NY passed forward on May 11, 2018 at one of her favorite charities, the Francis House. Her caring family and friends were at her bedside.
Ruby came from a large family and thus loved all things family. Perhaps the only thing equal would have been her love of animals. It was noteworthy that on the very day of her passing her dog “Nadia” visited her one last time, jumping right in bed with her. That same day, Nadia was being adopted by a new family. It was as if Ruby was waiting to know of her being accounted for before she moved on. She had a big heart for animals.
Ruby graduated from North High School in 1954. Always hard working, she held various pharmaceutical positions including working at Rothschild’s and the Veterans Administrations.
Ruby was a great philanthropist and donated generously to the Francis House, Golisano Children’s Hospital, SPCA, Humane Society, Doris Day Animal Fund, Cat Coalition, and Make-a-Wish to name just a few!
She is predeceased by her parents and 10 siblings. Ruby is survived by her sister Jenny; her brother John and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Ruby’s life will be held at 12 pm noon on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter’s Church. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Dewitt.
Ruby was a dear, sweet woman who will be missed greatly.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the HumaneCNY, 4915 W. Taft Rd., Liverpool, NY 13088.
