Carmella (Pugliese) Scarcella's Obituary
Sadly, Carmella Scarcella, 84, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on June 2, 2021, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born in Palmi, Italy on July 7, 1936 to Antonio and Maria Pugliese. Carmella moved to Syracuse in 1954 and married Frank Scarcella on July 3, 1954.
Carmella worked tirelessly for over 40 years as a seamstress at Learbury’s while walking to work, raising her three children, and caring for her own mother and father.
She exemplified strength, generosity, and kindness everyday. Carmella enjoyed cooking, baking, shopping, and gardening. She also looked forward to her time in Florida each winter. Most of all, Carmella loved caring for her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren brought her incredible joy.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Frank Scarcella and her brothers, Joseph, Martino, and Antonio Pugliese.
Carmella is survived by her 3 children, Rosemary(Leonard) Massaro, Antoinette (Nicholas) Longo, and Rocco (Carol) Scarcella and her sister Rose (Joseph) Musolino.
Carmella will be deeply missed by all, especially by her 7 grandchildren: Leonard (Denise) Massaro, Nicole (Ryan) Sunser, Frank (Olivia) Massaro, Danielle (Nicholas) DelVecchio, Frank (Michelle Hemmings-Jones) Scarcella, Cristina Massaro, and Rocco (Nikole Taylor) Scarcella. As well as her 5 great-grandchildren: Alexander, Mason, Mya, Oliver, and Madison. She was known to them as “Nonna”.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Carmella’s life will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. To attend Carmella's mass remotely, please visit Our Lady of Pompei/St.Peter facebook page at 11:55 am Saturday. Entombment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Friday, June 4, 2021 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd, (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
