Carmelo Briguglia's Obituary
Carmelo Briguglia, 65, of Syracuse passed away on Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Rosarno, Italy and served with the Italian Army. Carmelo moved to Syracuse in 1967 and was employed as a Bricklayer and Ceramic Tile Specialist and was a member of the Bricklayers Union. Carmelo was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and came from Italy to give his family the American dream and worked very hard all of his life to accomplish this. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church and was devoted to Padre Pio. He made homemade wine, loved watching soccer and loved his best friend, "Gino" his little companion. Carmelo wore his heart on his sleeve and was a friend to all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents, Vincenzo and Trieste Briguglia; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emilio and Giuseppina Chirico; brother, Nino Briguglia, 3 brothers-in-law, Vincenzo Spezzano, Francesco Porretta and Nicola Massaro and sister-in-law, Rosemary Chirico. Carmelo is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Angela (Chirico) Briguglia; 2 sons, Vincent (Richelle Nesci) Briguglia and Roberto (Tracy Tassone) Briguglia, both of Liverpool; 3 grandchildren, Alexandria, Olivia and Luca Carmelo; brothers and sisters, Nunziato (Rosina) Briguglia, Maria Porretta and Giovanni Briguglia, all of Italy; brothers and sisters-in-law, Maria Briguglia of Florida, Carmelo (Antoinette) Chirico of Syracuse, Caterina Spezzano of Ontario, Giovanna Chirico-Massaro of Italy, Vincent (Robin) Chirico of Liverpool and Dominick Chirico of Liverpool; cousin and caregiver, Patricia Nappi-Dery of Syracuse and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 8:00 AM in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY and 9:00 AM in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, Rev. Paul Angelicchio will be officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 PM. Carmelo's family wishes to express a special "Thank You" to Dr. Russell Silverman, Dr. Louis Bonavita and Dr. Nasir Ghaly and their staff for all their special care, also many thanks to all of Carmelo's relatives who made it possible for him to come from Italy.
