Carmen C. Costa, Jr.'s Obituary
Carmen C. Costa, Jr., 62, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, April 22, 2016 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Syracuse and graduated from the University of Rochester Eastman School of Music where he earned his Master’s in music, and Syracuse University where he received his Master’s in education. Carmen was a teacher of instrumental music at Driver Middle School in Marcellus, NY for 37 years, retiring in 2015. He was an accomplished musician who once played in Carnegie Hall and many times with the Syracuse Symphony. Carmen loved teaching and working with children. He also enjoyed cooking, playing tennis and watching Syracuse sports. Most importantly, he loved spending time and traveling with his family. Carmen was a loving husband, father, brother, son and friend to many who will be truly missed.
He was predeceased by his father, Carmen C. Costa, Sr. in 2011.
Carmen is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Donna (Nelson) Costa; his two cherished sons, Trevor Costa and Justin Costa; his mother, Cora (Fiorito) Costa; his brother, Joseph C. (Barbara) Costa; his sister, Mary Lou (Glenn) Thompson; four nieces, Julie Costa, Jennifer (Brian) Niezabytowski, Jodie Costa and Bronte Nelson; his nephew, Thomas Nelson, and one great-nephew, Connor Niezabytowski.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Carmen’s life will be conducted on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 9:30 am in St. Joseph’s Church, Camillus. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 pm -7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
