Carmen J. Surace's Obituary
Carmen J. Surace, 95, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Archbald, PA to the late Salvatore and Antoinette (Sicary) Surace. Carmen was a WWII Navy Veteran and was stationed in Guam aboard the USS Biloxi. He worked as a Syracuse Police Officer for nearly 30 years up until his retirement. Carmen loved to spend time with family, fish, travel, and go camping and was an avid NY Yankees fan. He was an active member of the Syracuse Bocce League, the Catholic Golden Agers, Sylvester Athletic Club, Syracuse PBA Retirement Club, and the 10/40 Club. Above all, Carmen cherished time spent with family and friends, especially his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Mary (Tortora) Surace; his daughter, Melanie Surace; one brother and four sisters.
Carmen is survived by his daughters, Annette Montgomery and Michele Surace; his sons, Sam (Diane), Carmen Surace II (Pam), and Mark Surace; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held from 1 – 4 pm on Monday, December 26, 2022 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse. A funeral mass in celebration of Carmen’s life will take place at 10 am on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St. Syracuse. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
