Carole Eleanor Wasko's Obituary
Carole Eleanor Wasko, 72, of Syracuse, passed away January 13, 2021. She was born in Derby, CT, daughter of the late Nicholas and Eleanor Wasko. Carole received her Bachelor of Science at University of So. Connecticut, and MBA in Education at Syracuse University. She also received multiple Certificates of Advanced Studies at SUNY Cortland during her quest towards her Ph.D. Carole was a proud employee of the Syracuse City School District, where she contributed as teacher and head of the English Department at Nottingham High School. She also spent time as the Nottingham Bulldogs Cheerleading coach in the 1970’s. Carole held several additional Syracuse City School District administrative roles, including night and weekend school teaching to further non-traditional students.
Carole was a devout Catholic and actively donated to more charities that can be listed. She was an avid reader, lover of arts, theater, and music, and a lifelong SU Athletics fan (except when they played UCONN). Carole enjoyed dining at locally owned restaurants, tending to her beautiful gardens at home and at camp, as well as watching sunsets on Lake Ontario. Carole loved cooking and having a family dinner nightly; her favorite moments were spending time with family and close friends, calling them on her flip phone.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by several beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. Carole is survived by her husband, Arthur Wafer; three children, Nicole Wafer Adams (David Adams II); Matthew Wafer and Margaux Wafer, all of Syracuse; two grandchildren, Amelia, and Piper Adams; siblings, Shirley (Dennis) Moulton of CA, Nicholas Wasko of CT, and Tammy Wasko of CT; several nieces, nephews, close friends, and her puppy Kohl, and other family pets.
Carole’s family would like to send a special thank you to the wonderful staff at both St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, as well as the caring individuals at Hospice of CNY.
Carole’s wishes were to have a celebration of life at her favorite place, Brennan’s Beach, Lake Ontario, Summer of 2021. Funeral arrangements entrusted to THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Carole’s name to the loving caretakers at Hospice of CNY and of the Finger Lakes, 990 7th North St., Liverpool, NY 13088 or visit www.hospicecny.org.
