Carolyn A. (Mancino) Rich's Obituary
Carolyn A. Rich, a devoted wife, loving mother and retired educator, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 10, 2026. Born in Syracuse, NY to Carl and Ruth Mancino, Carolyn lived a life filled with kindness, dedication, humor and quiet strength.
A proud graduate of SUNY Oswego, Carolyn went on to earn her master’s degree from Indiana University. She devoted her professional life to teaching at Syracuse City School District for 30 years, touching the lives of countless students with her patience, warmth, and unwavering belief in the power of education.
Carolyn was married for 58 wonderful years to the love of her life, her handsome and devoted husband Peter. What a love story they shared; meeting around age 3, losing contact at about age 5 and their mothers chance meeting while they were in college, reconnected them to marry and create a beautiful family. Two children that were the pride of her life, Kym (Sal) Marino and Peter (Timea) Rich who will deeply miss her but will have full hearts every time she leaves them a sign of her love. Carolyn always enjoyed Sunday dinner with Sal’s Italian creations and visiting her son and daughter in law at the marina just soaking in the view and learning about traditions of Slovakia.
Beyond her family and career, Carolyn found joy in quiet moments, the company of her beloved fur babies, cats, Boots and Midas, and the everyday beauty of a life well-lived.
Also surviving are her sister, Linda Hurley and brother, John Mancino along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
To celebrate Carolyn’s life, friends and family are invited to gather on Friday, March 13, 2026 from 4 - 6:30 pm, immediately followed by a prayer service at 6:30 pm at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY. She will be laid to rest in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Baldwinsville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carolyn’s memory to a local literacy or animal welfare organization.
