Catherine “Peggy” (Haines) O'Brien, 97, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Iroquois Nursing Home. She was born in Syracuse to the late Allen and Claramae (Fronce) Haines and graduated from Syracuse Univ Read Obituary
My mother, Mary Littlefield, met Peggy in nursing school at SU around 1945. It was the beginning of a 68 year friendship. Through marriages, children, joys and losses, countless coffee talks, baseball games with husbands Jim and Dave, vaccine and flu clinics, they were life long friends. We all send our deepest condolences to Peg's family and honor her life well lived.

Peggy lived next door to my mother, Colette Grace, at Greenpoint. Peggy, my mom and their other neighbor Vicki were the best of friends and did everything together. It was such a beautiful thing to witness the ultra close bond that these ladies developed. Peggy would tell me often that she loved her "big sister" Colette. After my mom passed I would still visit with, and call Peggy, and we would have wonderful conversations. Such a lovely lady. And did she ever love her Yankees! We would have long, in-depth conversations about the Yankees and what they needed in order to win their next championship. She knew her baseball! It was like talking to my own mom. People as sweet as Peggy don't come along every day, I will greatly miss Peggy.
Growing up across the street I can say that I knew Peggy for my whole life. She was a very special lady! She had a deep love for her family, faith and Dove chocolate! I was always impressed when she knew how to DVR those Yankees games at age 85! She will be missed by many! My condolences to you all.
