Charles Edward Hoffman's Obituary
Charles Edward "Ed" Hoffman, 91, of Liverpool, passed away on August 14, 2024, following a brief illness. Born on September 19, 1932, in East Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late Jack and Ellen Hoffman. Ed lived in northern New Jersey until 1972 when he moved to Liverpool, NY, with his wife, Gail. He was a graduate of Seton Hall Prep and was united in marriage to Gail Hoffman in Chatham, NJ in 1970. In 1953, Ed was called to serve in the Korean War, dedicating two years to Radio Communications as a CPL. Over half of his service was spent in Occupied Germany, where he exemplified dedication and bravery. This opportunity also allowed him to connect with family members on his father's side while stationed there.
Before his retirement, Ed worked as a commercial underwriter at Kemper Insurance and was also an entrepreneur. From 1977 to 2002, he ran a successful photography business, capturing over 400 weddings and portraits in Central New York. His artistic vision captured countless moments that families will cherish for a lifetime. Ed was very involved in his church, Christ the King, serving as the church photographer for decades capturing countless first communions, confirmations, breakfast with Santa Claus, and other important events. He served as a lector and played the piano during mass, a role he embraced wholeheartedly. Ed was an exceptionally talented pianist whose music brought beauty to many lives, captivating audiences both near and far. He learned to play the piano at a young age and soon began playing the organ at church, as well as teaching others.
Ed loved traveling the country with his wife and over the years was an active member of several bowling leagues. A passionate New York Yankees fan, he found great joy in cheering for his favorite team. He loved indulging in his favorite desserts and savoring a nightly Manhattan. Ed will always be remembered for his kind and compassionate spirit. His warm heart and sense of humor would light up any room, bringing joy to those around him.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife, Gail, and their two children: Charles "Sonny" (MaryBeth) and daughter ReBecca Blanch (Edward), both from Liverpool. He also leaves behind two beloved step-grandchildren, Jacob and Kaila, an older sister, Agnes, along with many cherished nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother Bill and sister Eleanor. His legacy will endure through the love he shared and the memories he created. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
