Christine Polifroni's Obituary
Christine (Cerrillo) Polifroni, 96, of Syracuse peacefully rejoined her loving husband Sam on Sunday. She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of Joseph Cerrillo and Mariangela Gialto Cerrillo Lostumbo, January 31,1915. Christine was best known for her affiliation with Syracuse China from 1929 until her final retirement in July 2004 at the age of 89. She was proud of her accomplishments as a printer in the print shop of Syracuse China and went on to set up outlet stores and her final job as the greeter at the factory outlet store in Lyncourt. At an early age, the owner of Syracuse China took note of her apron and asked if he could have it to copy for one of their patterns. The pattern is still available and is the Roxbury. In 1952 when one of the owners of Syracuse China, Mr. White was retiring, he sold his home and furnishings to Christine and Sam. While working at the factory at an early age, Christine helped with domestic chores at their home and Mr. White felt it should go to them. She proudly owned that home till her death. Christine was very active in her parish at St. Daniel's Church. She was a Eucharist Minister, past member of the Mary & Martha Society, the Knights of St. John Auxiliary, #246 along with the Salina Seniors and a Syracuse China Retiree. She was predeceased by her husband, Sam (Jerry) Polifroni in 1974, her infant son, an infant daughter, Dolores and her daughter, Mary Carfagno in 1999. Also predeceased are brothers and sisters, Joseph Cerrillo, Mary Donardo, Racheal Laganna, Margaret Zogby, Dominic, Anthony, Vincent and Verne Lostumbo. Christine is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann (Robert) Dunn of Liverpool; her son, Joseph Polifroni and companion, Terry Spillett of Lakeland; son-in-law, Russell Carfagno, Sr. of Onondaga; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandsons; sisters, Carmella DiFlorio of Solvay and Pauline Basla; brother, Rudy (Mary Anne) Lostumbo of Lyncourt; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the staff at James Square, A South for her excellent care. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 8:00 AM in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd., (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY and 9:00 AM in St. Daniel's Church. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM.
