Christopher Contard's Obituary
Christopher Contard, 73, of Liverpool, NY, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a long illness. He was born on November 24, 1948, in Brooklyn, NY as the second son (by mere minutes) of Michael and Dorothy Contard. Chris grew up in Brooklyn and was a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School as well as earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He served in the United States Army and eventually had a long career in engineering working for companies such as Bechtel, Iowa Electric Light and Power Company, Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, and Constellation Energy. He was the long-time chairman of the Linn County (IA) Republican Party and ran for Mayor of Cedar Rapids, IA in 1989. He was also a long-time Freemason, serving as the Worshipful Master of Mt. Hermon Lodge #263 in 1990. He is lovingly remembered for his outgoing personality, his generosity of spirit, his ability to befriend people and always remember their names, and his unbreakable optimism.
Chris was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Contard in 2015; his twin brother, Michael Contard; and his sister, Linda Trezza.
Chris is survived by his two sons, Christopher (Ellen) Contard, Jr. of Bennett, CO and Ian Contard of Liverpool; his daughter, Amanda Contard of Liverpool; seven grandchildren: Jake Lazzaro; Jordan, Nora, Alex, Annabelle, Trinity, and Timothy Contard; five brothers: Peter, Paul, Robert, Richard, and James Contard, and many sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2022, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. A funeral service will take place at 8:30 am on Monday, November 7, 2022 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a funeral Mass in celebration of Christopher’s life at 9:30 am in Epiphany Parish at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, with burial in North Syracuse Cemetery, North Syracuse NY.
