Clyde V. Cooke's Obituary
Clyde Vince Cooke, 49, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2025. He was born in Syracuse to Clyde J. and Lottie M. (Doxtator) Cooke.
Clyde enjoyed cooking for his family and friends and was employed for many years as a cook at Cosmos Pizza and Grill on Marshall Street in Syracuse until its closing, then at Sadler Dining Hall at Syracuse University.
Clyde was a proud member of the Oneida Nation of the Thames of Ontario and the Wolf Clan. Many people called him “Cloudy,” which was the English translation of his Oneida name. Clyde’s heritage and family inspired him to create traditional crafts such as beadwork and crochet.
Clyde also enjoyed music and literature as well as film and television of various genres. He was particularly fond of watching anime, westerns and science fiction, including Star Trek in all its incarnations, an interest he shared with his loving wife Gina. He commented that he was the Spock to her Captain Kirk, a tribute to their favorite characters. Clyde enjoyed traveling with Gina to interesting and scenic locations.
Clyde was part of a large, loving family. He was predeceased by his parents; his siblings, Louis, Gordon, Andy and Juanita; and a cherished cousin, Russell “Tonto” Delano.
Clyde was blessed with a loving marriage of over 17 years to his wife, Gina Stankivitz, who survives him; he is also survived by his son, Brandon Cooke; his siblings, Leta De Jesus, Stacey De Jesus, Guy Cooke, Emily Cooke and Marc Cooke; his feline companions, Freddie and Miller; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
Clyde’s family extends their thanks to his many doctors and caregivers. Please consider donating to the American Cancer Society, https://donate.cancer.org/ or an animal shelter of your choice in memory of Clyde.
