Concetta "Connie" Ponzio's Obituary
Concetta H. “Connie” Ponzio, 94, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2019. Concetta was born on February 16, 1925 to the late Mariano and Anna (Pavone) Ponzio and was a graduate of North High School. Upon graduation, Connie pursued her desire to work as an Administrative Assistant at the Nettleton Shoe Company and immediately found a successful career there; walking to work every day. When the company was sold, she went to work in the office of the Meloon Foundry in Mattydale until her retirement. Connie became lifelong friends with Lou Ianettoni and his wife Mary that ran the company.
Concetta is best known for her community service work as a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital for 40 years. She supported the Church and many other community-based organizations and was a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei Church her entire life. Connie loved attending mass there and was especially fond of the music and choir. She was always there for her fellow parishioners in need, whether in hospitals or nursing homes.
Concetta’s final years were lived out at the Athenaeum in Skaneateles, where she was a member of the Rosary Club and developed many friendships.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved sister, Anna Alvaro. Concetta is survived by many cousins.
A funeral mass in celebration of Concetta’s life will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Our Lady of Pompei/ St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St., Syracuse. Entombment will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
