Constance "Connie" Mazella's Obituary
Constance "Connie" (Colaneri) Mazella, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, following a brief illness. She was a lifelong resident of Syracuse and a graduate of North High School. Connie was a hostess at her family's restaurant, "The Caroma", until its closing in 1982. She also worked many years in numerous positions for the Syracuse City School District. She finally retired at age 75 as the secretary to the Superintendent of Schools. Connie was an active member in the Bereavement Luncheon Committee and Society of St. Therese at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Connie traveled frequently and enjoyed family vacations in Wildwood, NJ and spending the winters on Singer Island, FL. She was a loyal fan at all of her grandchildren's sporting events. Connie could also be seen in her black and gold outfits, cheering on the Henninger High School Basketball team. She was a regular participant in activities at the McChesney Senior Center, where she enjoyed exercise and the companionship of her close group of girlfriends. Connie also enjoyed cooking for friends and family, golfing, playing cards, playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all kinds of shopping. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Anna Colaneri; her husband, Nicholas S. Mazella and her son, Joseph J. Mazella. Connie is survived by her daughter, Christine (Leonard) Del Vecchio; daughter-in-law, Janice Mazella; brother, Nicholas (Lou Anne) Colaneri; six grandchildren, Nicole (Kevin) Michaud, Peter Del Vecchio, Cara Del Vecchio, Marissa Mazella (Dan Paparo), Leah Mazella and Alicia Mazella; three great-grandchildren, Owen, Brady and Maya Michaud; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 9:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Francis House or Hospice of CNY.
