Cynthia (Brown) Kane's Obituary
Just as in her life, Cynthia “Cindy” Kane passed with grace on November 20, 2019 surrounded by her family. Born on March 27, 1931 in Syracuse, she was the daughter of Grace (Gates) Brown and Dr. Wendell V. Brown. After attending Nottingham High School, she graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University. Cindy married Evan O’Neill “Tom” Kane III whom she met in the Thousand Islands where they both summered with their families. Cindy was involved in numerous activities throughout the community including Portfolio Club, Syracuse Garden Club, Everson Museum, University United Methodist Church and was President of the Junior League. Her volunteer endeavors led her to become the Coordinator of Volunteers at the Everson Museum of Art. Tom and Cindy raised their children in Manlius and then retired to Skidaway Island, Georgia. Following Tom’s passing in 2009, Cindy moved to Connecticut and then lived at The Nottingham in Jamesville.
In addition to Tom, Cindy was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Ann Brown in 2014. She is survived by her twin brother, Dr. Wendell V. Brown, Jr. (Marianna); children, Amy (Mike) Phelps, Linda (Jeff) Batts, Kiki (Robert) Hagemeister and Andrew (Holly) Kane. “Gooch” was also loved by her nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2020 at her beloved Thousand Islands. Donations in Cindy’s memory can be made to Friends of the Nature Center, 44927 Cross Island Road, Fineview, NY, 13640.
