Daniel W. Griffith's Obituary
Daniel W. Griffith, age 84, left this world peacefully on December 9, 2022 after a long period of ill health.
Dan was born on July 28, 1938, to Willard and Gertrude Griffith in Wilkes-Barre, PA, moving to Central New York during WWII. He graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy in 1956 and Syracuse University in 1960. He was a devoted Christian, esotericist, teacher, and poet.
Dan spent most of his career teaching business classes at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. After retirement, he moved to Merritt Island, Florida, where they lived for 25 years. Earlier this year, he moved back to CNY.
Dan was like the sea – calm or turbulent, unfathomable, mysterious, and boundless. Those whose lives he touched over the years remember him for his deep faith in God and his voluminous knowledge of many topics. At various times, he was active in multiple groups, including Civil Air Patrol, the Space Coast Writing Guild, and AARP.
Dan is survived by his children, David Griffith, John Metzler, Susan Hole, Valarie Metzler, and Robert Metzler, his brother, Richard Griffith, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His wife, Shirley Griffith, daughter, Katherine Griffith, and son, William Metzler, predeceased him.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, from 11 am – 12 pm, immediately followed by a funeral service celebrating Dan's life at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. He will finally rest at White Chapel Memory Gardens, Dewitt, NY.
