Daniel Michael Russo's Obituary
Daniel Michael Russo, 88, went to be with the Lord Friday, July 17, 2026, at Francis House in Syracuse.
Daniel was born on November 4, 1937, to Michael and Rose Russo. A life-long resident of the Syracuse area, he loved Frank Sinatra, Broadway musicals, golf, playing cards and good food, especially when enjoyed with his family and friends. Above all, he cherished his family, his many grandchildren, and the time they spent together.
He graduated from St. John’s Catholic Academy in 1956. Dan was a long-time member of the Lake Shore Yacht & Country Club which became his second home, and he spent countless hours enjoying the game he loved most - golf. At home, he enjoyed playing the piano and singing to his grandchildren every chance he could. He also took great pride in his signature full head of white hair, which remained the good-natured envy of many well into his later years.
One of Dan’s greatest joys in life was taking his great-granddaughter to Mass on Sunday. Despite the 80-year age gap between them, he cherished this tradition, which was always followed by a pancake breakfast (of course).
Dan is survived by his children: Denise, Daniel Jr and Jeannine; his grandchildren: Jocellin (Allen), Jordan (Amanda), Jerricca (Christian), Kathryn, Jacqueline and Daniel III; great-grandchildren: Christian, Jahzair, Jacen, Malachi, Olivia, Cyprus, Nova, Jennah, Gideon, Galilee, and Kaya; his brother, Richard; his sisters-in-law, Ginnie and Carol; his long-time friend, Kelly Keegan; along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and his close friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael; mother, Rose (DiBartolo); brother, Michael, daughter-in-law, Susan and cherished friend, Brian Buck whom he loved like a son.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, located at 3401 Vickery Rd, Syracuse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 9:30 A.M., at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, located at 301 Ash St, Syracuse, followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery, 2401 Court St, Syracuse.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dan’s memory to the Francis House.
