David Raymond Corcoran's Obituary
David Corcoran (66) of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 18, 2023 at his partner’s home attended to by his loving family and friends after a courageous 17-month battle with Cancer.
David was raised in Liverpool as the oldest of seven children born to Patricia “Tish” and William “Bill” Corcoran who both predeceased him.
David is survived by his amazing partner of 18 years, Stephen Butler; loving brother, Doug (Sandy) Corcoran; 5 devoted sisters Donna (Ray) Carroll, Barbara (Cliff) McGlory, Kathy Stevenson, Kelly Corcoran and Pam (Sam) Zaidspiner; 9 nieces & nephews, Jason, Jessica, Casey, Christopher, Sara, Alyssa, Riley, Jenna and Colin. He also leaves behind countless friends with whom he cherished spending time with.
Dave graduated from Liverpool High School and attended the Syracuse University School of Architecture. He proceeded to work for 31 years as a graphic designer in his family's business, Peerless Press where he was Vice President. Dave later became part of the Staples Corporate Marketing Division before retiring in 2019.
Dave was a venerated graphic designer and brought his artistic aesthetic to everything he did; he was big into the arts and crafts movement and was excellent at home design. He belonged to the Craftsmen’s Club and was an avid collector and restorer of vintage radios, collectibles, antiques, and art. Dave and his partner Stephen loved to travel to distant shores including Bermuda, Costa Rica and Curacao. He loved music and collecting albums, remodeling his old house, gardening, but most of all spending time with family and friends.
Words of remembrance from his siblings: we are all heartbroken by the loss of our much loved big brother. He embodied everything you could want in a brother and was always there to chat, comfort and lend a helping hand no matter the task. He was incredibly selfless, unassuming, kind and a strong presence in our lives as family was everything to him! Life will change and never be the same without our rock and sibling leader, but we will carry on simply because that’s what he would want us to do. Always in our hearts and forever missed …
Thank you to Nurse Denise Downing-Capozzi and Chaplain Michael Santy both at Hospice of CNY, and Michael DeSalvo and Nick Orth for all their compassionate care.
