David A. Covel's Obituary
David A. Covel, 72, of Central Square, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 15, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. David was born in Batavia, NY, to the late Chester and Mary Ann (Bihlmeyer) Covel. He worked in insurance and risk management for many years, notably for Liberty Mutual as a Claims Manager and most recently for Raymour and Flanigan as the Director of Risk Management.
He was a devoted member of the Brewerton United Methodist Church, serving on various church committees. David loved tinkering around the house, going on camping trips with his family, boating on many of the NY lakes and motorcycle riding with his sons and brothers. He was a man of integrity, was always willing to lend a helping hand and was considered to be the ultimate family man, dedicating his life to his wife and sons.
David is survived by his wife of 37 years, Christine (Gottman) Covel; his children, Joshua Covel (Anne Fuller), Benjamin (Natalie) Covel, and Jordan Covel; his siblings, Ann (Joe) Viterna, Jim (Cindy) Covel, and Craig (Elizabeth) Covel; along with several in-law family members, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the fine medical providers at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Hematology-Oncology Associates of CNY.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 19, 2024 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse.
