David J. Del Vecchio's Obituary
David J. Del Vecchio, 67, of Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. He was born in Syracuse to Joseph A. and Anna (Panunto) Del Vecchio.
David was a 1977 graduate of Bishop Ludden High School, received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from LeMoyne College and a Master’s degree from Chapman University. He was licensed as a New York State CPA and credentiated as a Certified Fraud Examiner having served as president of the Upstate NY Chapter of ACTFE for many years. David retired from the City of Syracuse in 2020 as a Commissioner of Finance. David spent over 30 years working for the City of Syracuse. David was a Commissioner of the Department of Public Works for the City of Syracuse. He also worked for the City of Syracuse in the Department of Community Development and in the Department of Audit. David held adjunct instructor positions with various colleges including Onondaga Community College and Utica University.
David was predeceased by his infant daughter, his father Joseph A. Del Vecchio, and several aunts, uncles and a few cousins.
David is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Farley) Del Vecchio; his mother, Anna Del Vecchio; his brother, Joseph Del Vecchio, brother-in law and sister-in-law Norman and Annette Farley, sister-in-law Rosalie Farley along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 8:30 A.M. - 9:15 A.M. in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 927 Park Ave, Syracuse, NY, immediately followed by a funeral Mass in celebration of David’s life at 9:30 a.m. in the church, with burial in Assumption Cemetery.
