Dean was a wonderful teacher. He was so patient and kind to everyone. I had the pleasure of working with Dean at the Middle School years after I had him as a teacher in high school. He coached my husband in high school and he has so many memories of Coach. After Dean retired, he came back every year and always came in and sat down in the nurse's office and asked me about my family. He would beam with love and joy as talked about his family. I am so very sorry for all of his family and friends. He made the world brighter! He will be missed dearly...RIP Coach O!!!!!!

As you will hear though out the day he was a good man, teacher and coach. He did always try to make you a better player and person. With me personally he couldn’t have been a better fit for a coach . I could tell many good things about this man that he did for me personally to help me succeed in athletics and a lot of his coaching tools I used in my coaching career. All in all we all lost a good man ! But for the Overend family I am truly sorry

We are very saddened to hear of the loss of Dean. I attended Henninger with Dean and have wonderful memories of our time there. It is not possible to picture Dean without seeing a smile on his face whenever you saw him! His gentle soul and positive spirit filled a room. Our heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. I had Mr. Overend for gym class at Central Square in the early 90s. 5th or 6th grade I think. I remember him taking us our for cross country skiing and I was having trouble getting my ski clipped into my shoe. He goes, ok I'll help you, but if I can get it clipped in you owe me a cookie haha! It's such a random memory from my childhood. And it's those little things that always stick with you. Despite being very active in track all throughout middle and high school, I never got to know him that well and never had him as a coach. I will always remember him as my elementary school gym teacher.
Coach Overend will always be in my memories! He inspired our football team which helped us win championship games. On and off the field he taught all of us players life lessons which we use in day to day life. He was a true inspiration! Because of his high standards he held us to, it kept me on the right path to graduation. To his family, thank you for sharing his life with us. His memory will live forever with me!
