Dominic J. Forleo's Obituary
Dominic J. Forleo, 94, of North Syracuse, passed away April 17, 2019.
Dominic was born to Catherine Ianuzzi and Paul Forleo on July 1, 1924 and was a lifelong resident of Syracuse. He graduated from North High School in 1942.
He married Nancy DeBello, the love of his life, on August 6, 1949. They celebrated 65 years of marriage in 2014, just 2 months prior to Nancy’s departure from this life. His family will never forget the meticulous care he took of her in the years prior to her passing.
He was an employee of Syracuse China for approximately 38 years and became Supervisor of the Decorating Department until his retirement in 1986.
Dominic was a proud U.S. Army/Air Force veteran serving during WWII as a Bombardier Navigator. He flew 26 combat missions in B26 aircraft and fondly remembered all his buddies from the “big war”.
Dom and Nancy enjoyed 20 relaxing winters in Florida after their retirement and he was often seen walking the local shopping malls for exercise well into his 90’s. He was a loyal SU sports fan and an avid boater and fisherman. His children and grandchildren will never forget the happy times on the lake with him.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, and immensely appreciated the slightest thing anyone did for him. After he lost his wife Nancy in 2014, he made a valiant and successful effort to remain independent in his home until his last few days on earth. He will be greatly missed for his humility, his sense of humor, and his generosity.
Dominic was predeceased by his wife Nancy and by his sister, Mary Mickel.
Dominic is survived by three children, Paul (Jill) of Pittsford NY, Jean White (David) of Essex Junction Vermont and Thomas (Barbara) of Cicero NY; grandchildren, Stephanie White, Daniel (Sara) White, Christopher Schaefer, William Forleo, Katie Forleo (Marc Calvet) and Alex White; sister, Anne Carmola of Hilton Head SC; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 9:00 am on Monday, April 22, 2019 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Dominic’s life at 10:00 am in St. Margaret’s Church, Mattydale. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 6:00 pm on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
