Dominick P. "Dom" Pollastro's Obituary
Dominick Peter “Dom” Pollastro, 92, of Baldwinsville, NY passed away on May 27, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse, NY. Dom will be remembered as a hero by his loving family and friends, and as a highly decorated Veteran awarded the Purple Heart while serving his country in the Marine Corps during WWII. Born in Syracuse, NY, on July 19, 1919, and a life-long resident of the Syracuse area, Dominick was the son of Carmine and Carmella Pollastro and one of nine siblings. Dom was employed as Transportation Manager at Vega/Jaquith Industries for 43 yrs which was initiated prior to his military service. Dominick loved spending time with his family, enjoying a cup of coffee and vacationing in Florida during the winter months.
Dominick is survived by his loving wife Virginia of more than 65 yrs; his daughter, Donna Marie (Edward) Bambrick of Liverpool, NY; his sons, Michael (Adelaide) Pollastro of Olympia WA, Richard Pollastro of Sedalia, CO, David Pollastro of Fayetteville, NY, Gary (Teri) Pollastro of Mercer Island, WA and John (Carmen) Pollastro of Lake Tapps, WA; his sister Clara Anastas; eight grandchildren, two great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, Syracuse. Burial will follow in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
The family wants to acknowledge the many years of medical care by Dr. Anthony Navone and the wonderful care of the 8th floor nursing and support staff at the VA Medical Center. The family also requests that contributions in lieu of flowers be sent to the CLC Hospice at the VA Medical Center, 800 Irving Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13210 in honor of Dominick Pollastro.
