Donald P. "Dumper" Adamczyk's Obituary
Donald P. “Dumper” Adamczyk, 71, of Liverpool, passed away December 25, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in Utica, NY, son of the late Thaddeus “Ted” and Stephanie “Sadie” (Turkiewicz) Adamczyk.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Cynthia (Francescotti) Adamczyk, his daughter, Courtney Adamczyk (Bradley Ecke), his brother, Michael (Roberta) Adamczyk, who he always looked up to and adored, his niece and goddaughter, Cara (Steve Jones) Adamczyk, his niece, Stephanie (Kyle) Robinson, many additional nieces, nephews and cousins with whom he had an individual bond, and with countless friends who he considered “family.”
Don grew up in New York Mills, where his love of sports began. He was very proud to be a member of the 1970 undefeated Notre Dame High School football team, with whom he continued to have a close bond, meeting at least once a year. When he moved to Syracuse his love of sports continued and over the years he was on numerous softball, basketball and golf leagues. He loved the New York Giants, New York Yankees and Syracuse University sports. He served on the board and coached LGSL; he was part of the committee that planned and instituted a “Field of Our Own”. Later in life Don enjoyed playing on his nephew Paul's Turbo Bocce league.
Donald graduated from Notre Dame High School and from Mohawk Valley Community College with a degree in civil engineering. A job with the D.O.T. as an engineer brought him to Syracuse, and he was proud to this day of being part of the Camillus Bypass. Don had a successful engineering career at Niagara Mohawk/Constellation Energy, retiring after 40 years.
Family was everything to him and anyone who knew him knew how much his wife and daughter meant to him. He loved visiting his daughter in NYC and then more recently in Jersey City. He loved vacations in Lake George and treasured his yearly vacations with his wife and friends. Don’s pastimes included gardening, cooking, and creating his own hot sauce, known as UDHS. Anyone who met him will have many cherished memories.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 9:00 am – 11:30 am, followed by a funeral service in celebration of Donald’s life at 12:00 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
