Donald "Don" Baycura's Obituary
Donald “Don” Baycura, 84, of Bayberry, passed away Friday, May 15, 2015 at Crouse Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Cleveland, OH and was a graduate of Binghamton High School, NY Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences at Binghamton. Don was a US Army veteran and served as an Aircraft Mechanic in the Army Artillery Corp in the Korean War from 1953-1955. He was a 1958 graduate of RIT with a degree in Engineering. Don was employed at General Electric in Johnson City, then moved to Liverpool (Bayberry) in 1973 and worked at R.E. Dietz in Syracuse. Then the U.S. Department of Defense Contract Administration until retiring in 1996. Don was active in Boy Scout Troop 222, Seneca River Little League and was a Bayberry Community Association volunteer. He enjoyed serving as a guide at the Oneida Lake Fish Hatchery every spring. Don loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and environmentalist who taught his children to respect and appreciate nature.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Anna (Kalinak) Baycura and his brothers, John and Edward Baycura.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, June (West) Baycura of Bayberry; his four children, Lawrence (Jean) Baycura of Potsdam, NY, Lisa (Merrill) Greenia of Clay, Christopher (Leslie) Baycura of Liverpool and Paul (Mary Beth) Baycura of Camillus; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Sarah, Hannah, Jason, Jay, John and Jordan; his sister, Mary Ann Lester of Binghamton; sister-in-law, Virginia Baycura of Binghamton, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don’s family would like to thank his health care aids, Sandy and Tom, along with the Veterans Administration, Rachel and the staff at Silver Fox Senior Social Club in Baldwinsville, the staff at St. Camillus Day Care and also Dr. John O’Brien and the Cardiac Intensive Care Units at Crouse Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Don’s life at 11:00 am at Christ the King Church, Bayberry. Interment will be at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Baldwinsville. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, May 18, 2015 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
