Donald J. Keegan's Obituary
Donald J. Keegan, 88, of Syracuse, passed away Monday, October 14, 2019 at Iroquois Nursing Home. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Fahey) Keegan. Don was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the American Legion Post. He was a Firefighter with the Syracuse Fire Department, retiring after 32 years of dedicated service. In 1984, Don received a Valor award from the Syracuse Firefighters Association for his brave conduct in bringing a fire victim to safety. Don enjoyed golfing, spending time with family and friends at camp on Lake Ontario, and attending his granddaughters sporting and dance events.
He is predeceased by his siblings, Joan Nelipowitz, Eugene and Jack Keegan and Patty Hammond. Don is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Anne (Ianniello) Keegan; his daughter, Donna (Michael) Ludovico; three granddaughters, Lauren, Alexis and Regina Ludovico; his sister, Betty Hardcastle; sister-in-law, Mary Keegan; brother-in-law, Andy Ianniello, along with several nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be held on Friday, October 18, 2019 from 11 am – 12 pm at St. Daniel’s Church, 3004 Court St., Syracuse, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Donald’s life at 12:10 pm at St. Daniel’s Church. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
