Donald B. Pawling's Obituary
Donald B. Pawling, 89, passed away June 3, 2023, at Bishop Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Syracuse. He was born on March 22, 1934, in Syracuse, son of the late Alphonse and Frances Doersam Pawling. Donald grew up in and was a lifelong resident of Syracuse. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1952 before joining the 28th Infantry Division of the Pennsylvania National Guard and was deployed to Europe as part of the NATO effort during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge from the Army National Guard, Donald worked at Niagara Mohawk as a gas line foreman/crew chief for 42 years before retiring in 1994. Donald was an avid bowler for many years. He coached his sons’ various baseball teams while they were growing up.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Barbara (Campbell) Pawling of 56 years in 2019 and brothers, David, James, and Allen Pawling.
Donald is survived by his two sons; Dr. Scott R (Michelle) Pawling of Cleveland, Ohio, and Chris (Andrea) Pawling of Syracuse; granddaughter Maren Pawling and grandson Sawyer Pawling both of Cleveland, Ohio, sister Kathy (Pawling) Mawby of Glendale, Arizona and many nephews and nieces.
Family and friends may attend calling hours on Thursday, June 15th, 2023, from 9:30am until 11:30 am at THOMAS J PIRRO JR FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Road (corner of Buckley Rd) North Syracuse, NY, followed by a funeral service in celebration of Donald's Life at 11:30. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
