Dorothy (Dapice) Adornato's Obituary
Dorothy (Dapice) Adornato, 86, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Friday after a very long illness. Born in Syracuse, she was the daughter of Italian immigrants from Naples, Louis Dapice and Maria (Votino). Formerly a resident of North Syracuse, Dorothy attended Eastwood High School. She retired from General Motors and was a member of the UAW. Dorothy worked for Syracuse China and General Electric before getting married and becoming a homemaker for many years. She was a former communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in North Syracuse where she was a member of the Happy Times Club. Dorothy was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus Columbiettes. While growing up she was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed her days on the softball field. In later years she continued to follow sports and was a high average bowler. Dorothy especially took an interest in the Syracuse sports teams and was a New York Yankees fan.
She enjoyed cooking with a passion and was always learning new culinary techniques. Dorothy will be remembered for her kitchen talents and as a wonderful, conscientious caregiver to her husband, Nick who she diligently looked after around the clock for nine years prior to his death in 2011. Dorothy was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.
She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Nick Adornato who she married on June 4, 1955. She was the youngest of eight children and is also predeceased by all of her siblings, Carmen, Mary (Ventre), Florinda (Tisdell), Phyllis (Liberati), William, Nicholas and Joseph.
Dorothy is survived by three children, sons, Vincent Adornato of E. Bridgewater MA (wife, Pamela ), Louis Adornato of Hudson, WI (wife, Andrea) and daughter, Carol (Adornato) Culkin of Overland Park, KS (husband, Jerry Culkin); 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:00 am in St. Rose of Lima Church. Entombment will follow in Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
