Dorothy H. (Spagnoletti) Nami's Obituary
Dorothy Helen (Spagnoletti) Nami went home to our Lord on July 18, 2016. She was born to Nicholas and Rebecca (Pirro) Spagnoletti on April 21, 1933. The youngest of five siblings, Dorothy resided in Solvay, NY and graduated from Solvay High School in 1951. She married Ottavio Peter Nami, son of Peter and Michelina Nami, on May 29, 1954. A resident of the west side of Syracuse, first above the Willis Avenue Market owned by Peter Nami (Tavio’s father) and later on Avery Avenue (1960). Dorothy and Tavio raised four children together. They moved to Solvay to spend their retirement in 1994.
Dorothy was an employee of the Metropolitan Insurance Company and later at New York Telephone and AT&T until she retired in 1991. She was a regular communicant of St. Brigid and St. Joseph Church on Willis Avenue also serving on the St. Brigid and St. Joseph Altar & Rosary Society, a member of the St. Anthony Society at St. Cecelia’s Church in Solvay, and a Eucharistic minister volunteer at Van Duyn Home and Hospital. Dorothy was a member of the Pioneers through New York Telephone and enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, her in-laws, her son, Stephen Nami and her daughter-in-law, Julie Bovalino; her siblings, Lucy Davis, Albert Spagnoletti, John Spagnoletti, and Mary Zulberti; her in-laws, Mary Jane (Carno) Spagnoletti, Howard Davis, and Sam Marotta.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ottavio Nami; her sons, Michael Nami, Nicholas Nami (Donna), Thomas Nami (Daryl Bell) and daughter-in-law, Lucy Nami as well as four grandchildren, Jason Nami, Marisa Hameline (Arthur), Anthony Nami, and Alexander Nami (Joelene Van Zile); two great-granddaughters, Alessandra and Piper; her sisters-in-law, Rose Marotta and Rose Spagnoletti; her brother-in-law, William Zulberti, and many nieces, nephews and very dear friends.
Dorothy's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of the sixth floor at Loretto Cunningham.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 9:45 AM – 11:45 AM at St. Brigid and St. Joseph Church, 318 Herkimer St., Syracuse, NY, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Dorothy’s life at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
In accordance to Dorothy’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity or the St. Brigid and St. Joseph Food Pantry, 318 Herkimer Street, Syracuse, NY 13204.
