Dr. Frank L. Frani's Obituary
Dr. Frank L. Frani passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, at the age of 95, surrounded by the loving family and friends that meant everything to him.
Dr. Frani was born to Frank and Rose Frani and grew up in Oswego, New York. After graduating from Oswego High School and Niagara University, he proudly served as a Lieutenant JG in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Des Moines, flagship of the Sixth Fleet, in the Mediterranean.
He later earned his dental degree from McGill University and chose a path that would define much of his life, caring for others. In 1960, he established his dental practice in Syracuse, where he spent more than fifty-five years serving generations of families. Patients came to trust not only his professional skill but also his warmth, kindness, and genuine concern for their well-being. To Dr. Frani, dentistry was never simply a profession. It was an opportunity to help people, build relationships, and become part of the fabric of his community. His patients arrived as patients and left as friends.
Yet, aside from all his professional accomplishments, Dr. Frani's greatest pride was always his family.
He shared a long and loving marriage with his wife, Joan, whose companionship enriched his life for decades. Together they built a family grounded in love, loyalty, hard work, and faith. In retirement, they enjoyed splitting their time between North Palm Beach, Florida, and their beloved cottage in Alexandria Bay, creating memories with family and friends in places they cherished.
Dr. Frani was a man of quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and deep generosity. He believed in showing up for people, honoring commitments, and treating others with respect. Whether serving his country, caring for his patients, supporting his friends, or loving his family. He approached life with a sense of duty and purpose that never wavered.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan; his parents; and his brothers, Joseph F. Frani, a World War II casualty in France, Phillip J. Frani, and Louis J. Frani.
He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth C. Frani (Lee Kresge) and Carolyn Frani (Joseph Zirkman, former son-in-law), who were the pride of his life; his grandson, J. Maxwell Zirkman, whom he adored, and several nieces and nephews who will remember him with great affection.
Frank leaves behind a life fully lived. His family takes comfort in knowing that while they will miss him dearly, they were blessed to have had him for so many years and shared in a life so rich, so meaningful, and so well lived.
Dr. Frani was a member of the American Dental Association, the New York State Dental Association serving as president in 1988, the Fifth District Dental Society, the Onondaga County Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry, New York State Chapter serving a term as president.
He was awarded fellowships in several organizations, including: The Academy of General Dentistry, American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists, Internationale College of Dentist and the Pierre Fauchard Dental Society.
