Edda (Avella) Iacampo's Obituary
Edda (Avella) Iacampo, 82, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Upstate University Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Edda was born in Italy to the late Carmen and Luigia (Capilongo) Avella and immigrated to Syracuse with her little sister, Assunta, in January of 1966. She was a seamstress at Learbury’s for 25 years. She also would make and sell cookies for weddings, showers, holidays or any other reason you could think of. Edda had an extraordinary gift for making people feel at home. Her kitchen was usually filled with the smells of something cooking or baking. She loved nothing more than to invite you over and feed you, every meal and cup of coffee a chance to connect and share stories, laughter and love.
Edda had such a spirit, always reaching out to others, and knew how a simple phone call could brighten someone’s day. Her kindness, generosity and spirit was the glue that held everyone together.
Along with her parents, Edda is predeceased by her husband, Michael Angelo Iacampo in 2017; and her siblings Dora (Vincenzo) Mutone, Mario (Antoinetta) Avella, Rosa (Clemente) Caporaso, Giovanna (Nicola) Napoletano, Carmela Santaniello, Maria Avella, and Amedeo Avella.
She is survived by her daughter, Catarina (Michael) Walter; grandson, Michael Jr.; siblings, Assunta (Nino) Moricone, Clara (Antonio) Grasso, brother-in-law Franco Santaniello, brother-in-law Mario Iacampo, sister-in-law Theresa Findley; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as her dog, Buddy.
Calling hours will take place on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:45 A.M. in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St., Syracuse. A funeral Mass in celebration of Edda’s life will follow at 12:00 P.M. (noon) in the church. Edda will be laid to rest beside her husband in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor her memory by donating to Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, the Francis House, or simply by sharing a meal with those you love.
