Edward L. Rose's Obituary
Edward L. Rose, 100, of Syracuse, passed away Saturday in St. Joseph’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Ed graduated from North High School and worked in the grocery business for many years as a sales representative for Blue-Boy and Haxton Foods. He owned the Sedgwick Grocery Store which he ran with his wife Peg and sister-in-law Angie Scarfino for 37 years. He was an avid golfer and bowler. Ed was an Usher and Holy Name Member at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. One of the “Pitch” teams at Pompei still bears his name.
Edward was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Anita M. “Peg” (Epolito) Rose in 2006. They had always enjoyed entertaining over the years at their Dewitt St. home where they would be with family and their many wonderful friends. Ed and his family celebrated his 100th birthday in April with a party at Copani’s Restaurant.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sedgwick Heights for their loving care over the past 3 ½ years.
Ed is survived by his sons, Edward J. (Gail) Rose of Little Falls, N.Y. and William W. (Susan) Rose of Syracuse; 7 grandchildren, Mark, Patricia, Edward, Chicklena, Marissa, Haley, and Lindsey; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers-in-law, James & Thomas Epolito and sister-in-law, Rose Epolito, along with many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Edward’s life will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 9:45 am to 10:45 am on Thursday at the church, 301 Ash St., Syracuse, N.Y. THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME is handling funeral arrangements.
