Edward A. Schmidt Sr.'s Obituary
Edward A. Schmidt, Sr., 81, of Cicero, passed away on Tuesday at Crouse Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Syracuse and graduated from St. John the Baptist School. Ed served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with Verizon for 43 years, retiring in 1991. He also found great pleasure in "working" behind the counter at Liehs and Steigerwald Meat Market. Ed was Past Vice President of Pinnacle Investment Club. He enjoyed his winters in Arizona and especially playing golf. An avid reader, he was well versed on a wide range of subjects. Ed will be remembered by all who knew him as one who brought a smile to everyone and to whom family meant everything. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Edna Chilson and Beverly Filipkowski. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Rita J. (Malandra) Schmidt; 4 children, Janice L. (David) Panasci of Jamesville, Mark E. (Susan) Schmidt of Syracuse, Edward A. (Rebecca) Schmidt Jr. of Arizona and Sandi J. (Randy) Hill of California; 4 grandchildren, Kayla and Mark Schmidt and Luke and A.J. Hill; brothers and sisters, Kenneth Schmidt of New Jersey, Jean Pudney of North Syracuse, Carol (Arthur) Street of Manlius and Dorothy (Paul) McLaughlin of Liverpool; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 9:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse and 10:00 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 pm. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
