Edwin P. Hayes' Obituary
Edwin P. Hayes, 86, passed peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2015. He was born on May 22, 1928 in Binghamton, NY, the son of Nicholas J. and Nannie (Hatch) Hayes. He spent most of his early years on the family farm near Apulia Station, NY. This great learning experience was most helpful in later years.
Mr. Hayes entered the Army Air Force near the cessation of World War II. He was enterprising at an early age. While in the service, Mr. Hayes also worked off base evenings to earn funds to purchase and pay for his first automobile. Following his military service, he worked in sales and resided in Maine and then in Ohio, returning for his remaining years to Onondaga County.
He was involved in his early business years working for Hall & McChesney Inc., promoting and selling the then new concept of microfilming, computerizing, and scanning government and hospital paper records. He later opened companies to perform these services in New York and New Jersey.
His demanding travel requirements led him to obtain a pilot’s license with single, multi-engine and Instrument qualifications. Mr. Hayes thoroughly enjoyed airplane associations and interests therein. He was an avid fan of Syracuse University sports and the New York Yankees. In later years he enjoyed working with projects on his property, the Tri-Ponds.
Mr. Hayes is survived by daughters; Dona Hayes Storm (William), and Stacy Hayes Hillanbrand; Sons: Patrick Benz (Patricia), and Blair Hayes (Maria); ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Siblings; Nancy Bush (Ronald) and Bernard Hayes (Linda); many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters; Mary Brennan, Betty Harrington, Ruth Johnson, and Noreen Griffin; Brothers; Nicholas Hayes, Neil Hayes and James Hayes.
Mr. Hayes loved his family. He especially enjoyed gatherings and sharing personal stories! He will be truly missed.
Mr. Hayes has donated his remains to Upstate Medical University for medical education and research. Upon completion of this process, he will be interred in St. Leo’s Cemetery, Tully NY.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 from 3:00 – 5:00 at Orchard Vali Golf Club, 4693 US Route 20, LaFayette, NY, with a celebration of life to follow immediately thereafter.
