Elizabeth M. "Betty" (Hoosock) Castle's Obituary
Elizabeth M. (Hoosock) Castle, 92, of Palm Harbor, FL., passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024 in Palm Harbor, FL. Elizabeth or “Betty” as she was known to her friends, was born in Syracuse to the late George and Josephine Hoosock, attended Saint Patrick's and Saint Anthony's Schools, and was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Florida and a former communicant of St. Margaret's Church in Mattydale, NY. Growing up in a large family of four sisters and three brothers, she learned to balance a worldly toughness with loving compassion, which she in turn instilled in her own family. Betty was a former resident of and nurtured her family in North Syracuse. Her working years included Assembly Line Laborer at the New Processor Gear Sewing Machine plant, Personnel Manager at W. T. Grants department store, and Accounts Receivable and Customer Focus Manager at Radio and Electronics Services, and while her husband served as Commander of the Tipperary Hill American Legion Post 1361, Betty served the Post as President of the Ladies Auxiliary.
When her children were young, she and her husband worked tirelessly to guide them, discuss opportunities, and instill a solid work ethic in them. Then, she always encouraged her children's life's decisions to be theirs, always supporting their decisions. She sacrificed a career and extra income to provide a wholesome upbringing for them. Betty’s family meant everything to her, loving them without question and without end. She moved to Port Richey, Florida in 1983 when her husband retired, and spent summers at Three Mile Bay. With the untimely passing of her husband, she was determined to carry on with a fulfilling life, which she did for 25 years. Later, she moved to an independent living apartment at the Stratford Court Senior Living center in Palm Harbor, FL. Living there was truly fun and carefree for Betty; her outgoing and compassionate personality constantly attracted and cultivated untold relationships.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Walter D. Castle; her son, Kenneth J. Castle of Wind Gap, PA; her grandson, John M. Castle of North Syracuse; her sisters, Jenny (Ed) Allen, Dorothy (Bill) Apps, Shirley (Jim) Zaccari; her brothers, William, George (Judy), and John.
Betty is survived by a daughter, Deborah (John) Sullivan of North Syracuse; a daughter-in-law, Debra Castle of Wind Gap, PA.; three sons, Timothy (Mary) of White Plains, MD., Thomas (Marcy) of Lewiston, NY, James (Linda) of North Syracuse; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion (Richard) Warner, a sister-in-law, Judy Hoosock, along with many nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services entrusted to THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Castle Family section at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Baldwinsville, NY.
One of Betty's final wishes was that, in lieu of flowers or donations, simply do a good deed and be kind to someone in her memory.
