Elizabeth A. "Betty" Pizzuto's Obituary
Betty Pizzuto, 77, of Brewerton, NY passed away peacefully on July 20, 2021 at home after a long illness, with her devoted husband of 58 years and her loving family at her side.
Betty was born and raised in Syracuse, NY. She graduated in 1961 from Most Holy Rosary School, Syracuse, NY. While raising her family of four in Liverpool, NY, she attended college and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English from Oswego State University and her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Syracuse University. She was employed by North Syracuse Central School District as a resource teacher, retiring in 2001.
Betty and her husband moved from Liverpool to Brewerton to enjoy the beauty of Oneida Lake. Sunsets and boating were among her favorite things. She enjoyed taking cruises, traveling to almost every continent. Her other great love was the ocean, traveling to Coastal Maine every summer. Fitness and outdoor activities were an important part of Betty’s life. She enjoyed running, yoga, biking, skiing, kayaking, hiking, and camping. The Yankees and Syracuse University Orange were her favorite sports teams. Her hobbies included bowling, sewing, knitting, and gardening.
Betty was deeply committed to her family and community. She was an active member of Divine Mercy Parish, Central Square, NY, as both a lector and Eucharistic Minister. She volunteered at Elderwood Nursing home, was a secretary of NOPOL library, taught CCD classes, and was a den mother for Cub Scouts.
Betty is survived by her husband, John; one son, John Jr. (Lena) of Liverpool; three daughters, Christine Isbell (David) of Liverpool, Deborah Marcy (Gary) of Rochester, and Jeanne Pizzuto-Sauve (Joseph) of Chittenango; eleven grandchildren, Joe, Marisa, Emily, Matt (Nicole), Katie, Anna, Danny, Mike, Noah, Zoe, and Jonah; a sister, Rose Burke of Erie, PA; sister- in-law, Patricia Pascarella (Tony) of Liverpool; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who provided such loving care for Betty in her home, as well as the staff at Crouse Hospital. In loving memory of Betty, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association of CNY and the Food Pantry at Divine Mercy Parish, 592 S. Main St. Central, Square, NY 13036.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Monday, July 26, 2021, at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Betty’s life at 10:00 am in Divine Mercy Parish, 592 South Main St., Central Square, NY. Family and friends may call from 3:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
