Ella M. "El" Grimes' Obituary
On October 15, 2025, Ella M. Grimes of Syracuse, NY, affectionately known as “El,” peacefully departed this life at the age of 88.
Born and raised in Syracuse, El remained deeply rooted in the community she loved. She retired from Anheuser-Busch after 18 years of dedicated service and found great joy in spending time with her family. Some of her happiest moments were scenic drives with her son to Skaneateles and Niagara Falls, tending to her beloved garden, and preparing delicious meals with ingredients she grew herself.
El was also known for her love of casinos across New York State, where she enjoyed the thrill and fun of the game. Her passion for life, family, and food was evident in everything she did.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Tina M. Grimes-Auguste; her son, Wilber Blair Grimes, and his partner, Stephen Webert; her beloved sisters, Doris McFarlin, Lou-Carol Franklin, and Maryl Fagan; and her brothers, Ronald Fagan and wife Mary and Howard Fagan and wife Stephana. She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren, TiElla Grimes and Shana Auguste; great-granddaughters, Zorah and Aminah Bynoe; and her goddaughter and niece, Paulita Fagan. A host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends also survive her and will miss her deeply.
El was preceded in death by her husband, Wilber Grimes, Sr.; her son, Thomas A. Grimes; her parents, Lue Ellen and Prince Elijah Fagan; her sister, Lola Thomas; and her brothers, Anthony Curtis Fagan and Jimmy Fagan.
Ella’s warmth, wisdom, and kindness touched all who knew her. Her legacy of love and laughter will remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
