Ellen Iovannisci's Obituary
Ellen (DeFerio) Iovannisci, lifetime resident of Syracuse, passed away on Monday at the age of 87.
Ellen loved being a housewife and taking care of her children. She was a baker at Henninger High School and enjoyed making cookies and cakes for families and friends.
Ellen was a communicant of St. Daniel’s Church, and was a very active member of many groups there including the choir, Guardians of Eucharistic Chapel, the Wisdom People, and Holy Name Society. She was also an active member of David Norcott Chapter, Nocturnal Adoration Society, Our Lady of Pompei prayer group, St. Charles Borromeo prayer group, and a member of the Lyncourt Fire Department Auxiliary. Ellen took vows as a nun with the Third Order of St. Dominic.
Ellen and her husband Tom traveled extensively in the 80’s and 90’s to Europe, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing their marriage vows at Cana in Galilee.
She is predeceased by her husband, Thomas A. Iovannisci in 2012, and her parents, James and Mary (Layman) DeFerio.
Ellen is survived by her loving children, Tom (Eleanor) Iovannisci of Kirkville; David Iovannisci of Seal Beach, CA; Andrea (Mehran) Maleki of Omaha, NE; Andrew Iovannisci of Syracuse; and Allen (Melissa) Iovannisci of LeRoy, NY; five grandchildren, Michelle (Kurt), Sage, Alyssa, Sophia, and Thomas; two great-grandchildren, Ian and Finn; two sisters, Joanne Casterlino and Roberta Guenther, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 8 a.m. in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Ellen’s life at 9 a.m. in St. Daniel's Church. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, November 13, 2017 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
