Ellen F. (Phelan) Kirsch's Obituary
Ellen Frances (Phelan) Kirsch of North Syracuse, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Born in Oswego to the late John and Clara (Argy) Phelan, Ellen moved to Syracuse’s Northside as a young girl. She graduated from Assumption Academy and worked at Muench-Kreuzer Candle Company and MacArthur Stadium. Ellen married William Kirsch and moved to North Syracuse where they raised seven children, later returning to work at Mothercare and Burlington before retirement. An enthusiastic SU Basketball fan, Ellen enjoyed dancing, baking, crocheting, family gatherings and visiting casinos near and far. As an avid traveler, she enjoyed her many trips with family and friends.
Besides her parents, Ellen is predeceased by her husband, William Kirsch; grandson, Christopher Kirsch; great-granddaughter, Callie Catalino; brothers, John, Thomas, James and Edward; and sisters, Margaret, Catherine, Mary, Anne, Dorothy and Betty.
She is survived by her children, Kathleen Warguleski, of Syracuse, Susan (John) Catalino, of Camillus, William J. Kirsch, Jr., of Clay, Mark (Cheryl) Kirsch, of Liverpool, Ellen (Isreal) Kirsch, of N. Syracuse, Joseph Kirsch, of N. Syracuse and Theresa “Tess” Kirsch, of Silver Spring, MD; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Clara Pfrang of Syracuse; several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Ellen’s life at 12:00 pm in St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse. Burial will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Chittenango. Family and friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
The family would like to extend their thanks for the care and comfort provided by the PCU at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ellen’s name may be made to the St. Rose Scholarship Education Fund or the Assumption Food Pantry.
