Betty and family,
I was one of the first, if not the first, teachers that Elston hired at Belleville back in 1970. Over the years we formed a special bond with each other even though school politics often led us to different points of view. I respected and admired Elston so much over the years and it was always a great joy to see both of you at retiree dinners. Elston was truly a special man who dedicated his life to improving the lives of his students while creating the best possible school environment for faculty and staff.His hard work led to our school merger and the building of a brand new school benefiting students for years to come. No one ever fought harder for that dream than he did.Still personally he gave me a chance to begin my teaching career and helped me work through the mistakes of a young teacher. It was his faith in me that led to my 34 years in education and now a daughter teaching as well. He always looked out for my children at school and in their careers as well. There is so much that can be said about him but mere words can never express all that he meant to me. I was so sorry I could not be at his services but I was out of the state on a previously planned trip with my son. Just know he will be missed but remembered by all who knew him, his faculty, staff and most of all his students.He did so much for so many that his legacy will live on for many many years.

We were so sorry to hear of Elston's passing. He was a wonderful person to all he met. His contributions to the Belleville School District are truly legendary! Our two families came together when our father was a member of the Belleville School Board and our mother was a music teacher at Belleville. We certainly have numerous fond memories of getting together for some laughs and good food. Our families would often make an annual trip to Lowville during maple syrup season and go to dinner at Shirley and Joe Widrick's restaurant for pancakes and fresh maple syrup. We miss those times! Please know that we are all thinking of you at this most difficult time.

Elston was a dedicated educator and administrator. He believed in our rural area, the community and the students. The students always came first. He enjoyed the stories students would tell, both while in school and after they became alumni. He believed the best way to understand education and to be a good administrator was to surround himself with good teachers and listen and observe how they taught. I owe my career to him. He taught me school business administration and the importance of keeping the student first in finances too.
While at school he could be found meeting with parents or teachers, having lunch in the custodian’s room, bailing out a clogged art room sink or singing Christmas Carols with the high school chorus. It didn’t matter the task, if it was good for Belleville Henderson School, he was there making it happen.
He is missed, but his memories are with many alumni and faculty with Panther Pride in our hearts!

Donna and I are sorry for your recent loss. I'm sure he will be very missed by you and your family. He was highly thought of in the Fulton school district and as the person who followed him as the Business Administrator, I had nothing but a great respect for him. I'm happy that I knew him as a colleague and friend. Betty, he enriched my life as I'm sure he did with many people who knew him. He was a great guy and I always enjoyed getting together as couples. I remember his going away party at Bonnie Castle. When it came time to pay the bill, we were told cash only. We were all struggling to come up with enough money to pay the bill, Elston got quite a kick out of that. We certainly had a great group of administrators. Elston and I shared a friendship that has lasted eighty years. We played together as toddlers, went to the same elementary, high school and college and we both pursued careers in education.His passing came as a shock but made me realize that I am left with a multitude of great memories of our times together. His friendship has meant a great deal to me,
