Emma A. (Pompo) Scalione's Obituary
Emma A. (Pompo) Scalione, 105, of Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at home with her family by her side. Born in Syracuse to the late Joseph and Genevieve (DiBernardinis) Pompo, Emma was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital for 16 ½ years, retiring at age 92. Emma was a communicant of St. Daniel’s Church, she loved the New York Yankees, Dallas Cowboys, and Syracuse University Basketball.
Along with her parents, Emma was predeceased by her husband, Anthony R. “Bob” Scalione; and 11 siblings, Nancy Mento, Ann Mollica, Angie Ilacqua, Rose Troendle, Margaret Marsella, Theresa Azzoto, Stella Natalizio, Dolores Pompo, Robert Pompo, Thomas Pompo, and Armand Pompo.
Emma is survived by her son, Robert S. (Jennifer) Scalione; grandchildren, Stacey (Joe) Muscolino, Robert A. (Julie) Scalione, and Julie (Jim) Griglio; great-grandchildren, Olivia Muscolino, Sophia Muscolino, Emma Scalione, Ethan Scalione, James Griglio, and Jillian Griglio, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral mass in celebration of Emma’s life will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 11:00 am in St. Daniel’s Church 3004 Court St. Syracuse. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call on Friday, August 27, 2021, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY 13212.
