Ernest R. Overend, Sr.'s Obituary
Ernest R. Overend, Sr. “Papa”, 77, of East Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Thomas and Helen (Mercurio) Overend. Ernest was a 1959 graduate of North High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army. He worked over 33 dedicated years with Niagara Mohawk; upon retirement, he worked several years with BJ’s and later with Whistlestop Florist in East Syracuse. Ernest was an avid golfer, woodworker and loved going to garage sales. He also enjoyed camping at Sandy Pond with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Mark Overend; his granddaughter, Sandra Christian and daughter, Shelley Fredette.
Ernest is survived by his wife of 27 years, Nancy L. (Hardter) Fredette Overend; 2 daughters, Beth (Bill) Brush and Valerie (Gene) Christian; 5 sons, Ernest (Tonia) Overend, Jr., Chris (Kelli) Overend, Craig (Concetta) Overend, Bill Fredette and Darren (Susan) Fredette; 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Tom (Lorraine) Overend and Dean (Jeanne) Overend, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may call on Monday, August 26, 2019 from 4:00 – 6:30 pm, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 6:30 pm at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
