Eugene Louis DePaulis' Obituary
Eugene Louis DePaulis, otherwise known as “Hugo” to his close friends, passed away at home, peacefully with his loving family at his side on July 1, 2021. Gene was born on September 10, 1929, in Syracuse, NY. He graduated from North High School and worked at the Hotel Syracuse for his entire working career. He worked tirelessly to support his family and retired at the age of 62.
Gene was a kind and loving man, always there with a hug and sage advice. He loved fishing, golfing, Syracuse sports and loved spending time in the Adirondacks. Most of all, he loved being with family and friends! Our family events were always filled with songs (he had a great singing voice), jokes and laughter with him leading the way. He could take a joke at his expense and was always there with a witty reply. In the future, these are the times, spent without him, that we will miss the most. We are left with many wonderful memories and images to sustain us. Gene also left us with a great sense of humor, a strong work ethic, and a true sense of Christian values that will carry on through his lineage.
Gene married Elizabeth “Betty” Karboski of Parish, NY in 1957. They were married for 64 years. Their devotion to each other was inspiring. They were always together and taking care of each other. They settled and raised a family in Liverpool, NY. Gene is survived by his wife Betty; sons, Joseph (Joanne Vincent) of Baldwinsville, NY, Mark (Patti) of Fayetteville, NY and daughter, Beth (Kevin Dominic) of Liverpool, NY; grandchildren: Alexandra (TJ), Emily, Stephen (Rachel), Joseph, Carrie, Jennifer, Andrew and Adam; great grandchildren: Addison, Haleigh, Juliet and Clara along with many nieces and nephews that are left to cherish his memory.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Nellie DePaolis; his brother, Louis DePaolis (Helen); sisters, Rose Ossola (Charles) and Angela Peters (Donald).
Gene's family would like to express a special thank you to PACE CNY.
Family and friends may call on Sunday, July 11, 2021, from 1-3 pm, immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Gene’s life at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
