Eugene P. Hope's Obituary
Eugene P. Hope, 95, of Mattydale, passed away on November 17, 2020. He was the son of the late Charles P. and Barbara (Eckenfels) Hope and was born and raised in Stowell, PA until the age of 12. His family moved to Syracuse, NY and Eugene graduated from St. Anthony of Padua High School. Eugene was a proud WWII Army veteran. In 1950, he married the love of his life, Frances (or “Star” as he would often call her) whom he met while they both worked at General Electric. For over 35 years, Eugene worked as a quality control inspector for Carrier Corporation, while also driving cab on the side. Eugene worked several other jobs over the years, including volunteering for Michael Bragman’s campaign for NYS Assembly and managing a furniture store in Geneva, NY.
Eugene was a devout Catholic and prayed for just about every person he met. He was also a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He loved riding his bike and in his later years, would spend his days riding his bike from one family member’s house to the next, picking up cans (and perhaps a baseball cap or two) from the side of the road along the way. Eugene will be remembered for his famous pancakes, his dedication to his family and his iconic catchphrase: “You Tomcat, You”.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Frances (Laneuville) in 1994; his siblings, George Hope, Raymond Hope, Colletta Hope and Barbara (Hope) Mahan; his daughter-in-law, Cathy (Caswell) Hope and his sons-in-law, Robert Borek and Frederick Kirschenheiter.
Eugene is survived by his five children and their families: Charles Hope (Carol), Patricia Hanley (Steven), Charles Hope (Kimberly) and Nicholas, Ryan and Andrew, Douglas Hope (Michelle) and Victoria, Isabella and Elizabeth; Michael Hope (Marge), Mandy Danielson (Lee) and Ashley, Vaughn Taylor (Monica) and Van and Hannah; Katrina (Hope) Kirschenheiter, Brooke (Borek) Mapother and Gaberiel and Emma, Sarah Kirschenheiter, Taylor Kirschenheiter; Kevin Hope (Cindy), Matthew Hope (Katie) and Maxx and Aaliyah; and Richard Hope (Linda), Kyle Hope (Dana), Austin Hope and Abigail Hope; as well as several other beloved family members and friends.
A calling hour will be held on Monday, November 23, 2020 from 10 – 11 am, immediately followed by a Funeral Service in celebration of Eugene’s life at 11 am at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. Interment with military honors will take place in Oaklawn Cemetery, Phelps, NY.
