Rev. Msgr. Eugene M. Yennock's Obituary
Rev. Msgr. Eugene M. Yennock, 97, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. Father Yennock was born in Syracuse to the late Samuel and Ermelinda (Capuozzo) Yennock.
He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Syracuse on June 3, 1950, by his cousin, the Servant of God Raffaele Delle Nocche. He served as the assistant pastor and then as the administrator of Immaculate Conception, Fulton (1950-1962), the chaplain to the Catholic Daughters of America and Junior Catholic Daughters of America (1951-1962), the principal of Oswego Catholic High School (1962-1971), the pastor of Saint Peter, Oswego (1966-1971), the pastor of Our Lady of the Angels, Endwell (1971-1979), the episcopal vicar for the southern region of the diocese (1979-1981), and the pastor of Saint Daniel, Syracuse (1981-2021).
Throughout his priestly life and ministry Father Yennock served with distinction and accomplished much, but at the heart of his efforts was his desire to serve God for the salvation of souls. He will be particularly remembered and deeply appreciated for his steadfast faith and love of the Church, his reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, his authentic preaching of the Word of God, his fidelity to the priesthood, his work in inspiring and promoting vocations, his pastoral care of those in need, his advocacy for the sanctity of life, and his support of Catholic education.
Along with his parents, Father Yennock was predeceased by his 3 brothers, Armond, John, and Albert Yennock and his sister, Hilda Scaravillo.
He is survived by 3 sisters, Norma Yennock of Syracuse, Marge Cesta of Hollywood, FL, and Sr. Margaret Therese, MFIC of Boston; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Monsignor Yennock will be held on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Daniel Church, 3004 Court Street, Syracuse, NY followed by the Rite of Committal at Assumption Cemetery. Public visitation will take place at St. Daniel Church on Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. followed by Evening Prayer at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Rev. Msgr. Eugene M. Yennock can be made to St. Daniel Church.
