Eva Esther (Vassallo) Surace's Obituary
Eva Esther (Vassallo) Surace, 91, of Syracuse, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014. She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Orlando and Almerinda Vassallo. A graduate of North High School, she retired from Crouse-Hinds after 30 years of service. Eva was a member of the Daughters of Columbus and a Ballroom Dance Club. After retirement, she and her husband Peter wintered in Daytona Beach, Florida, where they made many friends. They traveled extensively to countries in Europe, Asia and the Philippines. Eva was an extremely giving person to her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband of nearly 50 years, Peter Surace; brothers, Matthew, Nicholas and Peter Vassallo; sisters, Thomassina Lostumbo and Elizabeth Wise Valentine, and her niece, Virginia Dimico.
Eva is survived by her brother, Patrick J. (Delores) Vassallo and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Eva’s family wish to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at The Inn at Menorah Park for the compassionate care she received during her stay there.
A funeral mass in celebration of Eva’s life will be held at 12:30 pm on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, Syracuse. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 11:15 am - 12:15 pm on Thursday at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church.
