Fannie Barber's Obituary
On April 26th, Fannie Barber, lifetime resident of Syracuse, passed at her home. She celebrated her 102nd birthday on April 12th.
She started working at Syracuse Ornamental Co. and then began raising her family. Fannie was renowned for her excellent baking as the professional baker for The Liederkranz Club and later at the University Club. She finally retired from R.E. Dietz Co. After retiring, she tirelessly cooked and baked for family and friends. Holiday creations were her specialties.
She was predeceased by her parents, Sam and Amalia (Fortino) Emmediato and her sisters, Edith Fiori and Norma DeGregorio.
After the death of her husband of 62 years, John Barber, she suffered the loss of her only son, Samuel C. Barber; she also lost her son-in-law, Philip J. Klein.
Fannie will be missed by her sisters, Clara (Raymond) Hanley and Gilda DeCaprio.
She also leaves daughters Marion (John) Rotondo and Judith Klein, and daughter-in-law, Cheryl (Robbins) Barber. Grandchildren include Susan Lloyd, Jack (Debi) Rotondo, Jeanne Pieklik, Robert Rotondo, Sam Barber, John (Sara) Barber, Amy (Mark Headd) Barber, Philip J. Klein 111, and Deborah (Paul) Messina. Also surviving are 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends may call from 9:30 am – 10:30 am on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Our Lady of Pompei/ St. Peter, 301 Ash St., Syracuse, followed by a Funeral Mass in Celebration of Fannie’s life at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
